The opening event of the G7 Youth Summit will be held in Japan on April 9th (Sunday), at the Masaru Ibuka Auditorium, Waseda University!
Join us, online or in-person, as experts from around the world gather in Tokyo, including Taiwan’s Minister of Digital Affairs, Ms. Audrey Tang(video message participation)!

G7/G20 Youth Japan, non-profit organization for Y7 activities in Japan, will hold the opening event of this year’s G7 Youth Summit in support of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. The event will be hosted on April 9th(Sunday) at the International Conference Center, Waseda University, in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Titled “G7 Youth Summit Opening Event: Voices of the Youth to the G7”, the event will feature lectures from experts from around the world, discussions and exchange meetings with Y7 delegates from each country, and performances introducing traditional music and aspects of Japanese culture. 

Taking part is free of charge and accessible in a hybrid format! Although the event is targeted at G7 youth, anyone of any age and from any country is welcome to attend. For access information, please register on the registration page at the “Peatix” link below.

Event Program
Session 1: Expert Lectures
The day will begin with speeches on global international issues by leading experts in politics, business, academia, and other fields. The main language for lectures will be Japanese, with English-language translation available online for remote participants.

Session 2: Discussions and Exchange Meetings
In this session, participants will have the opportunity to have their voices heard through close discussions and exchange meetings with experts and Y7 delegates from each country. As part of the Y7 objective of representing youth voices to the G7, outputs from this session will contribute towards the delivery of policy proposals to the G7 as part of the Y7 communique.

Due to access limitations, the discussion session is available only for in-person attendees. However, online participants can join the interactive dialog session, which will be held in a hybrid format.

Please note: in the case of a large number of applicants, we may undertake screening for participation in the discussion session and workshop.

Session: Performance and Japanese Culture
Following the policy activities, leading Japanese artists will introduce participants to traditions from Japanese culture, including a performance of traditional Japanese music.

We look forward to welcoming a global cohort of leading experts to Tokyo for the Opening Event and Y7 Summit. Experts are hosted under the auspice of the Cabinet Office, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are grateful to have the support of the United States Embassy and The Tokyo Club in hosting this event, and the assistance of the United Nations University and Tully’s Coffee, Japan.

About the G7/G20 Youth Summit (Y7/Y20 Summit)
The Y7 Summit and Y20 Summit (hereinafter referred to as “Y7/Y20 Summit”) is an international conference of youth leaders representing each country, held once a year as an official adjunct conference to the G7 and G20 Summit, hosted or supported by the host country government. Youths under 40 with diverse backgrounds, such as researchers, government officials, and students, convene ahead of G7 and G20 Summit and make policy proposals by submitting a communique to the G7 and G20. IN 2023, the Y7 Summit will be held in Japan and the Y20 Summit will be held in India.

About G7/G20 Youth Japan
G7/G20 Youth Japan is a non-profit organization that aims to contribute to the world and Japanese society by further arousing the enthusiasm and interest of youth (from high school students to adults in their 30s or younger) in Japan in solving international problems and by bringing their voices to the diplomatic community. Its main activities are the selection and dispatch of Japanese delegates to Y7/Y20, organization of events on international issues for youth, hosting of Y7/Y20 Summit when G7/G20 Summit is held in Japan, and promotion of partnerships with governments, international organizations, and corporates.
